How to Watch the NHL in Canada in 2026-27: Sportsnet, TSN, Prime Video & Blackouts

Updated October 7, 2026 · 13 min read · New guide

Quick answer

In 2026-27, Rogers holds Canada's national NHL rights. Sportsnet airs Saturday Night Hockey and most national games, Monday Night Hockey streams only on Sportsnet+, and Prime Video has exclusive Wednesday games. TVA Sports carries national French games. TSN, RDS and Sportsnet regional feeds show local-team games inside each team's broadcast region. CBC no longer airs NHL games.

The 2026-27 NHL season is the first year of Rogers' new 12-year, $11-billion national rights deal, and it changed more about watching hockey in Canada than any season in a decade. CBC no longer airs games, so Hockey Night in Canada is gone and Saturdays belong to a new Sportsnet show. Monday nights moved to a streaming-only service, and Prime Video took over Wednesdays. The season opened on September 29, 2026, and every team now plays 84 games instead of 82.

This guide sets out who carries what in English and French, which regional games belong to TSN, RDS and Sportsnet's regional feeds, how blackouts are decided, and what each official service costs as of October 2026. It then shows where StreamVega fits, using the Canadian channels we verified on each of our servers on October 7, 2026.

Who holds NHL rights in Canada for 2026-27

Rogers Communications holds Canada's national NHL media rights on every platform from 2026-27 through 2037-38, under a 12-year agreement worth $11 billion CAD. That is roughly two and a half times the value of the previous 12-year Rogers deal, which ended after the 2025-26 season. The new deal covers all national regular-season games in all languages, every playoff game including the Stanley Cup Final, the league's special events, and the out-of-market rights to regional games (NHL.com).

Rogers keeps most of that on Sportsnet, which says it will carry more than 550 games in 2026-27, 35% more national broadcasts than last season. It sublicenses two pieces for the full 12 years: national French-language games to Quebecor's TVA Sports, and an exclusive Wednesday-night package to Prime Video.

Regional games, the ones shown only in a team's home market, are separate deals between each club and a broadcaster. TSN (Bell Media) holds regional rights for the Canadiens, Senators and Jets and shares the Maple Leafs with Sportsnet. Sportsnet holds the Flames, Oilers and Canucks plus its half of the Leafs.

Here is the week at a glance:

  • ✓Saturday nights: Sportsnet's Saturday Night Hockey doubleheader, on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
  • ✓Monday nights: Monday Night Hockey, streaming only on Sportsnet+.
  • ✓Wednesday nights: Prime Video, exclusive, in English and French.
  • ✓Other national games: Sportsnet channels and Sportsnet+ in English; TVA Sports, TVA Sports Direct and illico+ in French.
  • ✓Regional games: TSN, RDS or Sportsnet's regional feeds, inside the team's broadcast region only.
  • ✓Playoffs: Sportsnet in English except three early-round series on Prime Video; TVA Sports carries most series in French, including the Conference Finals and the Stanley Cup Final.

Hockey Night in Canada is off CBC: meet Saturday Night Hockey

For the first time since 1952, Hockey Night in Canada is not on CBC. The sublicensing agreement that put Saturday games and all four playoff rounds on the public broadcaster expired at the end of the 2026 playoffs, and Rogers and CBC did not renew it for the first year of the new national deal. CBC keeps the Hockey Night in Canada trademark, so the name did not move to Sportsnet.

Sportsnet's replacement is Saturday Night Hockey, which debuted on October 3, 2026 with Ron MacLean hosting and Elliotte Friedman, Kevin Bieksa and Colby Armstrong on the panel. Each Saturday is a doubleheader, and every matchup includes at least one Canadian team. It airs on Sportsnet and streams on Sportsnet+.

If you used to catch Saturday games over the air with an antenna on CBC, or on CBC Gem, that option is gone this season. Saturday hockey now needs Sportsnet through a TV provider or a Sportsnet+ subscription.

Monday Night Hockey on Sportsnet+ and Wednesday nights on Prime Video

Monday Night Hockey returned on October 5, 2026, but it now streams exclusively on Sportsnet+ and is not on the Sportsnet TV channels. David Amber hosts with analysts Luke Gazdic and Justin Williams. If you already get Sportsnet through cable or satellite, Mondays need a Sportsnet+ add-on, reported at $12.99 a month.

Wednesday nights belong to Prime Video. Under its own 12-year sublicense from Rogers, Prime Video has exclusive rights to at least 26 national regular-season Wednesday games a season, starting September 30, 2026, in English and French. It also gets two first-round playoff series and one second-round series each spring. The games are included with an Amazon Prime membership at no extra cost. For the previous two seasons Prime Video carried Monday nights in Canada; the Wednesday package replaces that arrangement.

The practical result: an English-speaking fan who wants every national window now needs Sportsnet (on TV or Sportsnet+), Sportsnet+ specifically for Mondays, and Amazon Prime for Wednesdays. None of the Monday or Wednesday games appear on a traditional TV channel.

French-language NHL: TVA Sports and RDS

Rogers sublicensed national French-language rights to Quebecor for 12 years, starting in 2026-27. TVA Sports, the TVA Sports Direct streaming service and the illico+ platform carry up to 350 regular-season games a season. That includes 32 Canadiens games, 10 more than under the previous agreement, and every Canadiens playoff game (Quebecor and Rogers announcement).

In the playoffs, TVA Sports has six of the eight first-round series, three of the four second-round series, both Conference Finals and the Stanley Cup Final, plus all of the league's tentpole events.

RDS, owned by Bell Media, remains the French regional home of the Canadiens. Bell renewed its regional Canadiens deal in October 2025 for 2026-27 onward. RDS's share drops from 60 to 45 regular-season games a season, while TSN keeps 50 English-language regional Canadiens games. Under Bell's long-term extension with the Senators, regional Senators games also stay on TSN in English and RDS in French.

One exception for French viewers: Wednesday national games are on Prime Video, which holds that package in French as well as English.

Regional games: TSN, RDS and Sportsnet's regional feeds, team by team

Any game not designated national is a regional game. It airs only on the team's regional rights holder, and only inside that team's broadcast region. Here is how the seven Canadian clubs split for 2026-27:

  • ✓Toronto Maple Leafs: split between Sportsnet and TSN. TSN lists 26 regular-season Leafs games available within the region. TSN's FAQ defines the Leafs region as Ontario, excluding the Ottawa Valley.
  • ✓Montreal Canadiens: TSN (50 English games) and RDS (45 French games). The Canadiens region has historically covered Quebec, the Atlantic provinces and the corner of Ontario east of Belleville.
  • ✓Ottawa Senators: TSN and RDS. TSN's FAQ describes the Senators region as Eastern Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
  • ✓Winnipeg Jets: TSN. The region covers Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and parts of northwestern Ontario including Kenora, Dryden and Thunder Bay.
  • ✓Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks: Sportsnet's regional feeds. Sportsnet+ Standard includes the local broadcasts for these three teams and the Leafs.
  • ✓About 150 games that were regional last season are national in 2026-27, according to Sportsnet, so those games are no longer blacked out anywhere in Canada.

How regional blackouts work in Canada

A blackout is not a technical fault. Each Canadian team's regional rights are sold exclusively to one broadcaster for a defined territory. Inside that territory, only the regional rights holder may show a regional game. Outside it, the regional broadcaster may not, and the game instead belongs to the out-of-market package, which Rogers holds under its national deal. That is why Sportsnet+ Premium can sell more than 1,100 out-of-market games while still blacking out regional games in your own market.

Eligibility is decided by where you are when you press play, not your billing address and not where the game is being played. TSN's own example: a Toronto resident can watch Leafs games while in the Toronto broadcast region, but if they travel to Vancouver and sign in, they hit a regional blackout. Services determine location from your IP address and, on phones, device location services; TSN's FAQ also points fans to the NHL's postal-code blackout checker and notes that satellite internet can trigger more frequent blackouts.

In-market means where you are, not where the game is. If you live in the Oilers' region, an Oilers road game in Florida that isn't a national broadcast is still a regional game for you, and it airs on the Oilers' regional broadcaster, Sportsnet. A fan in Halifax watching the same game is out of the Oilers' market, so it falls under the out-of-market package instead.

So when a game is missing from every service you pay for, it is usually one of three things: the game is regional, you are in its region, and you don't subscribe to that team's regional broadcaster (a Jets fan in Winnipeg with only Sportsnet+, for example); the game is a Monday or Wednesday national game that exists only on Sportsnet+ or Prime Video; or your location is being read incorrectly. The answer in each case is the matching official subscription or a corrected location setting. Neither StreamVega nor this guide changes these rules; this section explains why official services show what they show.

Official ways to watch and what they cost (October 2026)

Prices below are in Canadian dollars before tax, as reported or published in September and October 2026. Check each service before you subscribe, because Canadian sports streaming prices have changed more than once this year.

  • ✓Sportsnet+ Standard: $34.99/month or $269.99/year. National NHL nights, all Stanley Cup Playoff games Sportsnet carries, and in-region local broadcasts for the Leafs, Oilers, Flames and Canucks.
  • ✓Sportsnet+ Premium: $44.99/month or $344.99/year. Everything in Standard plus 1,100+ out-of-market NHL games, which makes it Canada's out-of-market package.
  • ✓Those Sportsnet+ prices took effect on September 22, 2026, up from $29.99/month and $249.99/year (Standard) and $42.99/month and $324.99/year (Premium).
  • ✓Monday Night Hockey for viewers who already get Sportsnet through cable or satellite: a $12.99/month Sportsnet+ add-on.
  • ✓TSN direct subscription: TSN Standard $24.99/month or TSN Premium $29.99/month, with annual plans offered. Both include TSN1 to TSN5 and select Leafs, Canadiens, Senators and Jets regional games with blackouts in effect; Premium adds NFL RedZone and extra NFL and NBA games, not more hockey.
  • ✓Amazon Prime: $9.99/month or $99/year, with Wednesday NHL games on Prime Video included.
  • ✓TVA Sports, TVA Sports Direct, illico+ and RDS: national and regional French-language games. We could not confirm current direct prices from an official page, so check TVA Sports and RDS directly.

Where StreamVega fits: Canadian hockey channels by server

StreamVega is a paid IPTV subscription that delivers live channels to player apps such as TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro. Each login lives on one server, and each server has its own line-up, so the question is which server carries the Canadian channels you watch. We checked every server's live channel index on October 7, 2026. Here is what we found for Canadian hockey:

  • ✓Sportsnet, including Sportsnet 360 and the East, West, Ontario and Pacific feeds: Server T, Server G and Server D. Server K carries fewer Sportsnet entries.
  • ✓TSN feeds and TSN+ event channels: large line-ups on Server T and Server G.
  • ✓TVA Sports and RDS: on all four servers (T, G, D and K), the main French-language hockey channels.
  • ✓CTV: on all four servers. CBC: the most CBC entries are on Server G, useful for CBC programming, though CBC no longer airs NHL games this season.
  • ✓NHL Network: on all four servers. Server T has a dedicated US| NHL PACKAGE group with live game slots and replays, and Server G and Server D also carry NHL game slots.
  • ✓Prime Video event channels appear on Server T and Server G, with fewer on K and D. We don't promise that any particular Wednesday game appears there.

Choosing a server and checking your channels in the free trial

For English coverage across both Sportsnet and TSN, Server T and Server G carried the broadest Canadian sports line-ups in our check; Server T is also our largest server overall, with 55,000+ live channels. If you mostly watch in French, TVA Sports and RDS are on all four servers. Server K is tuned for US and UK sports and is the thinnest of the four for Canadian Sportsnet feeds. Compare them on the servers page, and browse the Canadian channel list and sports channels.

Plans start at $10/month or $85/year per server, with 3-, 6- and 12-month terms, multi-server plans if you want two line-ups, and no contract. Line-ups vary by server and change as rights change, and we don't promise any particular game, event or channel. The reliable test is your own, before you pay:

  1. 1Pick a server on the servers page: T or G for broad English Sportsnet and TSN coverage, any of the four for TVA Sports and RDS.
  2. 2Start the free 24-hour trial. No credit card is needed, and your login arrives by email.
  3. 3Add the login to your player app, such as TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro, on your Firestick, Apple TV or smart TV.
  4. 4Search the channel list for the exact feeds you use: the Sportsnet regional feed for your team, the TSN feed, TVA Sports or RDS.
  5. 5Watch during a live game window, such as the Saturday doubleheader or your team's next game, to judge picture quality and stability rather than just confirming the channel is listed.
  6. 6If a channel won't play, check the server status page and the IPTV not working guide before you decide.

FAQ

Is Hockey Night in Canada still on CBC in 2026-27?
No. CBC's sublicense from Rogers expired after the 2026 playoffs and was not renewed, so CBC does not air NHL games this season for the first time since 1952. Sportsnet's Saturday doubleheader is now called Saturday Night Hockey and debuted on October 3, 2026, with Ron MacLean hosting.
Who has the NHL TV rights in Canada in 2026-27?
Rogers holds all national rights under a 12-year, $11-billion deal that runs through 2037-38. Sportsnet carries most national games, Prime Video has exclusive Wednesday nights, and TVA Sports has national French games. Regional games are on TSN, RDS or Sportsnet's regional feeds depending on the team.
How much does Sportsnet+ cost for the 2026-27 NHL season?
Since September 22, 2026, Sportsnet+ Standard is $34.99/month or $269.99/year and Premium is $44.99/month or $344.99/year. Premium adds 1,100+ out-of-market NHL games. Cable or satellite Sportsnet subscribers can add Monday Night Hockey for $12.99/month.
Where can I watch Monday Night Hockey in 2026?
Only on Sportsnet+. Monday Night Hockey started on October 5, 2026 as a Sportsnet+ exclusive, so it is not on the Sportsnet TV channels. TV subscribers need the Sportsnet+ add-on to watch it.
Which NHL games are on Prime Video in Canada?
Wednesday nights. Prime Video has at least 26 exclusive national Wednesday games a season, starting September 30, 2026, in English and French, plus two first-round and one second-round playoff series. They are included with an Amazon Prime membership.
Why is my team's game blacked out?
Usually because it is a regional game and you are inside your team's broadcast region, where only the regional rights holder (TSN, RDS or Sportsnet's regional feed) may show it. Eligibility is based on where you are when you watch, not your billing address. The fix is a subscription to that regional broadcaster.
Does StreamVega carry Sportsnet, TSN and TVA Sports?
Our October 7, 2026 check found Sportsnet feeds on Servers T, G and D, large TSN line-ups on T and G, and TVA Sports and RDS on all four servers. Line-ups vary by server and change with rights, so confirm the exact channels you need during the free trial.
